The MDCK cell line was derived from a kidney of an normal adult female cocker spaniel in 1958. Useful in viral studies, supports the growth of vesicular exanthema virus of swine, vesicular stomatitis, vaccina, coxsackie B-5, adenoviruses, reoviruses and infectious canine hepatitis. Also known as MDCK (NBL-2). This is not the same as MDCK II (P0014001). The latter is the late passage derivatives of a parental MDCK source.

AddexBio-formulated Eagle's Mimimum Essential Medium (C0005-01) + 10% FBS
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 8 x 1000 - 3 x 10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA. Cells attach firmly and require at least 2 DPBS washes prior to addition of trypsin/EDTA. Culture at 5% CO2, 37°C. Feed cells once every 2 to 3 days.
